10 Year Celebration! Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026

A weekend of folk art, traditional dance, and shared cultural stories hosted by Armonia Music and Arts, at West End, Leicester.

To mark a decade of dance, culture, and community, the Leicester Greek Dancing Group invites you to a special two‑day celebration filled with creativity, movement, and the vibrant colours of Greek heritage.

🌿 Folk Art Workshop, Saturday 12/09/2026, 4-7pm

Theme: Create a traditional stamp printed scarf.  

Art Workshop leader: Frances Deepwell (Deepwell Arts)

Participants will explore the cultural significance of scarves in Greek traditional costumes and learn how these textiles carry stories of place, identity, and memory. Under the guidance of Frances Deepwell, you will:

• Design and carve your own personalised stamps

• Use them to print motifs and patterns that represent Patterns of your Home country

• Create your own unique scarf to use in Sunday’s dance workshop

💃 Dance Workshop -Celebration, Sunday 13/09/2026, 5-7pm

Theme: Discover traditional dances that use the scarves as a prop. 

Dance Workshop leader: Popi Charitaki (Leicester Greek Dance)

On Sunday, Popi Charitaki will lead a lively dance workshop using the scarves created the day before. Many Greek dances incorporate scarves as props, adding flow, symbolism, and connection between dancers.

The session will include:

• Explore ways to use a scarf while dancing.

• Learn dances from the Greek mainland and the islands

• Explore dances from other cultures that use scarves with their dances.

🎂 Refreshments & Celebration Cake

Throughout the weekend, refreshments will be available, and on Sunday we will enjoy a celebratory 10‑year anniversary cake as we wrap up a weekend filled with rhythm, colour, stories, and shared memories.

Whether you love folk art, dance, Greek culture, or simply enjoy creative community events, this two‑day celebration welcomes all. No previous experience is required.
